Abstract:Chrysophanol is an active component of the herbal medicine rhubarb (Rheum palmatum). Many researches have shown that chrysophanol has extensive bioactivity in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and Alzheimer's disease. The neuroprotective mechanisms include antioxidant, AChE activity inhibition, brain amino acid modulation, brain tissue hypoxia tolerance enhancement, hippocampal neuron damage protection and neuronal apoptosis inhibition. It is a compound with a broad application potential. This paper mainly discussed the protective effects and mechanisms of chrysophanol in the nervous system.

Key words:chrysophanol,antioxidant,cerebral ischemia-reperfusion,neuronal apoptosis
